Profile
Ben is the Head trainer and owner of CrossFit Adelaide. He’s been in the fitness industry for over 10 years and been heavily involved with CrossFit for the majority of them having stumbled upon it in the early days (before you could buy Nanos or Metcons) and quickly becoming obsessed with all things CrossFit and opening CrossFit Adelaide in 2008. Since then Ben has coached and introduced literally 100’s of people to CrossFit making him one of the most experienced trainers getting around, in 2011 he also started the Fit Wars competition series which has grown to become South Australia’s largest functional fitness competition and helped showcase Crossfit to the wider community. Ben has also been successful coaching athletes in the competitive side of CrossFit having individual athletes qualify for the CrossFit Games Regionals every year since 2010, he’s also had athletes qualify the CrossFit Games in the USA in both the Individual and Masters divisions and Teams qualify for Regionals in 2011,2012 and 2013.
Favourite Lift – Clean
Favourite Workout – anything with rowing and/or wall balls and longer than 15min
Favourite Thing About Coaching Crossfit – educating people and also getting people excited about their own training (and realising exercise can be a whole lot more than just “losing weight”)
Background
Aside from doing many many many CrossFit workouts over the years and even participating in a few CrossFit competitions here and there.
Currently Ben’s training and semi competitive focus is racing mountain bikes both Enduro and Cross Country, 2021 was a bit patchy due to race dates been shifted all around the place with COVID etc but still managed to get out there and race both formats pretty consistently – even sneaking a win in the mixed pairs 24 hour event at Fox Creek with Steph.
Ben has been know to do some longer distance running having completed 7 marathons (including New York (twice), Singapore and Bangkok), while not high on the priority list at the moment there is a chance there might be a couple more in the future and if he can sort out his swimming – completing an Ironman is on the bucket list. Before getting into CrossFit he also spent a number of years training muay thai including a stint training over in Thailand which was instrumental in getting him to leave the world of professional cooking and into the fitness industry.
